Jacqueline Fernandez hails from Manama in Bahrain. She grew up within an ethnically diverse family. Jacqueline's parents are Malaysian and from Sri Lanka. Her father Elroy Fernandez hails from Sri Lanka. There are two brothers younger than her as well as an older sister. In the 80s, her parents emigrated to Bahrain in protest against the civil war on Sri Lanka. This is why she was both born and raised in the country. In Australia she pursued a degree in Media and Communications at University of Sydney after completing her studies in Bahrain. She went to in the Berlitz School of Foreign Languages that helped her learn French, Arabic and Spanish. Miss Sri Lanka 2006 won Miss Universe 2006 competition in March of 2006, and later participated as Miss Universe 2006 also.
